Lying in bed last night it occured to me why the pursuit of happiness is such a valid philosophy!
If we made it our priority to be happy it would relieve everyone else of the responsibility of trying to
make us happy, what a great gift in any relationship. Also, in order to be happy we really have to
find some way to be at peace with where we are, we have to be on good terms with people and let go of old resentments. In order to be happy we have to consider how we use our time and ask is it honouring who we really are. So indirectly, pursuing our own happiness is the best way we can live for ourselves and for everyone else.
As someone who has been a "perennial pleaser" it has been so liberating to give up trying to make everyone else happy and focus on what makes me happy. Funnily enough in doing so I haven't found that anything particularly dramatic happened, the people I thought were so dependant on me seem to be getting along just fine and I'm free to follow my bliss. Yaaaaayyyyyy

Am I the first to leave a comment? Hurrah! Champagne for me.
have to disagree with you, i'm afraid (heh heh - surprised?!). i long for a world where people treat each other with more care and responsibility. i believe that society is only as wealthy/healthy/contented as its least wealthy/healthy/contended person. putting my own happiness first does not make me happy. i am only happy when i sense that those around me have what they need. doesn't always work of course, because we can't always give our loved ones happiness wrapped up in a box.
there you have it - my two cents' worth.
i haven't actually looked at the paintings on your blog yet but am about to do so!
love, c
I'm with you Tracey!!! you gotta put your own oxygen mask on first before you can help anyone else. Keep up the good work!
Love Linda x
I'm with you too Tracey - the absolute only thing we have any control over is ourselves and how we react / respond to this life around us. If everyone took responsibility for their own happiness (and really their own life in general) I'm sure the world would be a happier, more peaceful and enjoyable place.
Shit happens to us all, big deal, life's too short to stay down for too long. Plus there's too many interesting and wonderful things we might miss if we keep our heads stuck in the sand.
I'm impressed with you blogging - go Tracey!
xoxoxo
Hi Christina
I understand what you're saying however making yourself happy certainly doesn't exclude treating others with care and responsibility. In fact I think a happy person is in a better position to do exactly that. I think the challenge is to learn to be happy regardless of our circumstances. There's nothing better than being around happy people it's such a gift.
My dad has been the best teacher of how to be happy under some very difficult circumstances and he still manages to light up a room and have everyone laughing in a matter of minutes, it's wonderful.
These are my thoughts, oh and by the way you do get champagne for being the first to comment on my blog!!! x
